There's something about Mary...

It is goosebump time when a runway show lives up to high expectation and Mary Katrantzou’s S/S 2010 show did just that on the second day of London Fashion Week. Following her last collection of fitted sheath dresses featuring perfume bottle graphics, she has successfully spun her creative signature into a whole new stratosphere. Katrantzou uses illusionism to create her pieces.

Hyper-real, digitally generated prints are transferred onto simple silhouettes to create a trompe-l’œil effect that accentuates and reshapes the female form. Genius! Where has she been all our lives? 

For Spring, she has been inspired by artisanal blown glass, creating op-art prints reminiscent of 60’s artist Bridget Riley. Completing each look are oversized jewellery pieces created by fellow Central Saint Martin alumnae and one of Europe’s most renowned glass blowers, Peter Layton.
