Style Queens

If we could award the little gold man for tres elegant fashion, these three would be major contenders. We made a wish and the Fashion Gods granted it, popping Penelope Cruz in red. We love this big, voluminous scarlet gown by Donna Karan. Super-svelte Kate Winslet knows she looks her best in YSL, this time she has tossed black out the window and opted for silver. Love. Demi looks luminous in Versace nude ruffles. She is perfectly accessorised with matching diamond cuffs and drop earrings.

When Carrie met Coco...

Sarah Jessica Parker has been Coco-fied! We love her in Chanel Couture, a fluid lemon silk satin column dress with gilted camellia detail at the bust. Direct from the runway, SJP has simply never looked more regal.  Coco would be Carrie-d away…

From runway to red carpet with a small alteration here and there....

Whilst some red carpet frocks are a cinch to spot others are not. Whilst most dresses are straight from a designer’s collections, others are super-special. Maggie Gyllenhaals’ Dries Van Noten was adapted from a dress from the A/W 2010 collection shown in Paris just days ago. Charlize Theron’s Dior concoction was derived from their Haute Couture collection shown in January.

Oscar ice queens & vampy glams

Today’s Oscar red carpet is a style swarm of icy, frothy concoctions and sexy, vampy hues. Read on for fashionfoodfatale’s verdict.

Elizabeth Banks in Versace

FFF verdict: Elizabeth has hit gold with this pretty lavender hue, corseted bodice and cascade of ruffles.  Best of all, it goes beyond pretty territory. There is something quite fierce about this frock and we like it.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

FFF verdict: Disappointing! Sandra has been on a fashion winning streak at late but has come last in this red carpet race. It’s a little too Dynasty for us and not in a good way. Bland, blah and badly fitting (what is she hiding under that too-long hemline?). We do love the red lippie though. Thank the Beauty God for small mercies.

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab

FFF verdict: Utterly gorgeous although some major jewellery is in need here. Perhaps some fabulous gold shoulder dusters. Her shoes have us salivating.

Amanda Seigfried in Armani Prive

FFF verdict: There is not doubt this dress is beautiful, but not so on the pale and petite Amanda? She looks anemic. Where is the jewellery? Plus her hair is far too severe. A greasy comb-over does not a Red Carpet Queen make.

Carey Mulligan in Prada

FFF verdict: Our first glimpse of black tonight. She looks lovely but is just not hitting the mark. Not quite whimicial enough for Carey although we do love the tiny charms adorning her bodice including teeny tiny little knives and forks (very fashionfoodfatale).

Tina Fey in Michael Kors

FFF verdict: Whilst her hair might be channeling Sarah Palin, Tina is “rock”ing this leopard print, one shoulder Kors to perfection. Love the minimal accessorising too.

Oscar Food: Hungry like the Wolf

In Hollywood terms, he’s almost as famous as the little gold man. Legendary chef Wolfgang Puck will once again weave his culinary magic over the annual post Oscar’s bash — the Governors Ball. So if you were joining the A-listers for the evening, what would you be eating?

Mini Kobe Burgers with Aged Cheddar and Remoulade; Wasabi Pea Crusted Crab Cake with Mango and Thai Basil; House Smoked Salmon, Potato Galette, Creme Fraiche and Baby Greens with Butler-passed Warm Brioche; Chicken Pot Pie with Yukon Gold Potatoes, Baby Heirloom Vegetables and Homemade Pastry Crust; and “L’Etoile de Oscar”—Baked Alaska with Espresso Glace, Guittard L’Etoile du Nord Chocolate Sorbet and Toasted Meringue.

A few other fun facts: the Governors Ball will host 1500 guests, attended to by 900 wait and 250 culinary staff. There will 1200 Bottles of Moët & Chandon Champagne, an 18 Piece all female orchestra and for the first time, Academy Award winners will be able to have their Oscar statuettes personalised with engraved nameplates at the Ball.

However — if you miss out on an actual award, fear not. You get to take home the traditional chocolate Oscar covered in 24 carat gold!

How do we get a ticket?!

FFF's Oscar Noms

Come Sunday night, we will finally see what this year’s Oscar red carpet chooses to throw at us. Impatient as we are, we have come up with what we would like to see Meryl, Sandra and Maggie et al wear when they visit the little Gold man.

Drew Barrymore: Drew has been a little grey of late. Whilst we have loved her “Grey Gardens” moment consisting of lots of vintage-inspired constructed gowns in nude, nude and nude, we think it’s time to shake things up a little. And what better way than with a dose of lilac ruffled Halston. Sprinkle liberally with diamonds and she’s a winner.

Carey Mulligan: We are feeling pink for Carey and when Audrey Tatou stole our first choice of hot pink Lanvin for the Baftas, we chose Chanel for Ms Mulligan. Long, luxe, pink and sparkling, it’s like pink Persian Fairy Floss. Red carpet delicious.

Helen Mirren: Head-to-toe, heavily embellished Lanvin for Ms Mirren. We would die to see this. It’s uber-sophisticated and fit for a Silver Screen Queen. We love.

Kate Hudson: If Kate pulls out white again we may well blanc out. We are stealing nude from Drew and slipping it on Kate. Her “Nine” body will more than do this Donna Karan justice.

Maggie Gyllenhaal: Maggie does off-beat seamlessly plus we are loving orange right now. This is a BIG Bottega Veneta gown to pull off, but if anyone will, it’s Maggie.

Marion Coutidard: We tried her in every other designer, but she is a Dior girl thorugh and through. She is made for this gown; sexy but sweet. Just like Marion.

Meryl Streep: Meryl looks best in dark, midnight hues. A touch of navy and a little bit of structure is just what she needs. How fabulous would she look in this Givenchy pant suit?  It is Streep-to-a-T.

Penelope Cruz: Red, it must be RED for our fiery little Spaniard. Penelope has had a red on red carpet mishap before (she virtually vanished and was but a floating head), but we are confident this Dior concoction will stand out. Love her and love this dress.

Sandra Bullock: Sandra has been all about purple of late which is why we are throwing her in navy. The perfect update, this Armani Prive dress is sleek, minimal and modern and sure to show off her lithe, athletic shape to Oscar perfection.

Love or not? Let us know and don’t forget to check in with us Monday morning for our FFF Oscar debrief. May the best (and most red carpet-worthy) win!  Happy Oscars people!
