Quick Bites: Nana shoes, Mum & Mini bag, Banana Maple Upside-Down Puddings, Soup Nazi back in business

  • Are Worishofers — the cork-soled saviour to the aching feet of grannies — the new cult footwear? Celebrities Maggie Gyllenhaal and Kirsten Dunst seem to think so. These nana style shoes, named after the Bavarian spa town where they are made (Bad Wörishofen), are enjoying an unlikely surge in popularity. Love or loathe them? dailymail
  • It’s so cold at the moment, we need the kind of warmth and comfort that can only be provided by these delectable little Banana Maple Upside-Down Puddings courtesy of the gorgeous O Pistachio. Bottoms up!
  • No show for you! Al Yeganeh — also known as the Soup Nazi after being immortalised in Seinfeld— reopened his original store on W.55th St NYC this week, but unfortunately for the snaking line of eager soup lovers, Al was a no show. Yeganeh’s Original Soup Man franchise now has stores in nine states, and he still oversees all recipes — but customers won’t see him serving up his famous soup and insults. Company president Bob Bertrand explains “He’s still the heart of the company, but he’s never gonna get back behind the counter and ladle soup, except as a guest.” Luckily his strict rules are still in force … 1. Pick the soup you want, 2. Have your money ready, 3. Move to the extreme left after ordering. Yes Sir! nydailynews

  • The ultimate chick-lit trifecta took place this week when Candace Bushnell, Cecily von Ziegesar and J. Courtney Sullivan convened at the Union Square Barnes & Noble to discuss their newest fiction books. Check out the fabulous Candace signing away copies of The Carrie Diary in Miu Miu. wmag

Quick Bites: Spanish nuptials, 6 top food tips, Oprah biopic, the lasagna sandwich?

  • Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have tied the knot. Cruz’s representative Amanda Silverman confirms the couple, 36-year-old Cruz and 41-year-old Bardem, were married in early July at a friend’s house in the Bahamas at an intimate ceremony attended by family members. Cruz’s wedding dress was designed by a longtime friend, fashion designer John Galliano. Felicitaciones! huffpost
  • Oprah Winfrey’s quarter-century run on daytime TV may be accompanied by a TV film dramatizing her life. Veteran producer Larry A. Thompson said the planned two- or four-hour Winfrey film will be based on Kitty Kelley’s tell-all biography. Thompson optioned the project for six figures, and it is expected to air in September 2011, which would coincide with the end of Winfrey’s weekday talk show. A spokesman for Winfrey’s Harpo Productions declined to comment. E!online
  • A fat-packed, much-hyped lasagna sandwich is making (big) waves in Britain. The just-launched extravaganza, on sale at Tesco, has the same amount of fat as two McDonald’s cheeseburgers and consists of two thick slices of bread, a filling of diced beef in a tomato and herb sauce layered with cooked pasta sheets and a creamy cheddar, ricotta and mayonnaise dressing. Ugh … NO THANKS! We’ll stick with a slice of home-made lasagna with a crisp green salad please! dailymail

Quick Bites: Madge the housewife, Papperdelle Alle Vongole, the next supermodel

  • In the latest campaign for Dolce & Gabbana, Madonna plays a character inspired by her icon, Italian actress Anna Magnani. The campaign is supposed to take place in an unspecified city in Italy and “describe the beauty and simple family life of an ordinary woman with her different roles as mother, daughter, granddaughter, cousin, and sister.” nytimes
  • Speaking of all things Italian, we are craving this Pappardelle Alle Vongole thanks to the talented Sommer at aspicyperspective. Check out her step-by-step instructions to a great version of this ultimate dish.

Quick Bites: Miu Miu, Armani couverture, lavender lemonade, cuff love

  • The Miu Miu A/W ’10 campaign was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot … Mmm mm! The shoot took place in swinging London, home of Twiggy, the Beatles (almost) and Carnaby Street which, although they were in a photographers’ studio, has maybe influenced the vibe of the finished product. Delicious. graziauk
  • Sweet news! Armani and Venchi, one of Italy’s market leaders in the high quality chocolate sector, are to collaborate on Armani/Dolci - a line of products including chocolate, pates de fruits, ice creams and panettone. Couture couverture is right up FFF’s alley! vogueuk
  • We can’t think of a prettier drink to quench our thirst — Lavender Lemonade courtesy of the always delectable sundaysuppers
  • We are still feeling fluro and have a bad case of cuff love so this Bex Rox neon cuff bangle is almost all we can think about. matches

Quick Bites: Valentino misses the mark, ScarJoh sizzles, Chowder me happy

  • Valentino finished up the pointy end of Paris Couture Week F/W 2011 with, to be honest, a fairly disappointing show (top). Creative directors’ Pier Paolo Piccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri helmed a collection that was classic but lacked inspiration, and judging by the runway pics — much of the finesse, cut and fit that was Mr Valentino’s infamous calling card. They managed to make rake thin models look thick waisted and frumpy, so one must ask … what hope would there be for the mere mortal? style.com
  • On a much sexier note, screen siren Scarlett Johansson remains the pouting face of Mango, with some steamy looks for the Fall-Winter 2010-11 campaign. Looking good ScarJoh! mango.com
  • We are craving this delicious Mussel, Leek and Bacon Chowder with religious zeal … perfect for chilly southern hemisphere eves snuggled up with the day’s papers, a good Sunday night movie and some Irish Soda Bread for mopping up scant remains. Who would want to leave the house with such warm temptation … thank you dinnerdujour.org

Quick Bites: tea spiced pears, Armani Prive, kitten heels & Lush

  • Being in a tea-type of mood, we want to whip up these delicious tea spiced pears. Steamed in tea with warming ginger and Asian spices, they are almost like a Chinese tong sui, or sweet soup. Unexpected bonus: the kitchen will smell divine. Thank you to the always fabulous jilldupleix
  • Bar Dior, we’re feeling a little underwhelmed by the Couture collections, so we were elated when Armani’s blonde brigade emerged in jet-set worthy couture in mouthwatering shades of caramel, coffee and almond. Delicious! style.com
  • We never thought we’d see the day: after years of crippling sky-high heels, kitten heels have worked their way back onto the runways and into the zeitgeist. We covet these sweet little twinkle toes by Christian Louboutin. Meow!! huffpost
  • Handmade beauty brand Lush is taking its cues from Finland’s sauna culture, launching two new entirely vegan products for the summer that are designed to work with the steam of your shower to draw out and destroy all kinds of nasty toxins lurking beneath your skin’s surface. Brimstone Body Scrub uses sulfur powder, China clay, and sea salt to increase circulation and unclog pores, while the aptly named Glorious Mud Body Mask — a thick, vanilla-scented, mineral-rich treatment — is meant to dry into a cakey layer before being rinsed off to reveal a seriously smooth finish. style.com

Quick Bites: Chanel ROARS, Mini-Minogue arrives, Eat Pray Love & spray

  • Behold the sheer size and beauty of the magnificent golden lion that stole the Chanel F/W 2011 show. The staggering centerpiece, created by set designers from the Paris Opera, was a tribute to the label’s founder Coco, whose star sign was Leo. C’est Magnifique! dailymail
  • Dannii Minogue has given birth to a Mini-Minogue named Ethan Edward Smith. The Australian singer, 38, and model boyfriend Kris Smith, 32, welcomed their son in a Melbourne hospital on July 5. Congrats Dannii and Chris!
  • As with most successful novels, the bestselling memoir “Eat, Pray, Love” has been made into a movie starring Julia Roberts. Not so usual however … the release of fragrances inspired by the book. Fresh has released a trio of scents in packaging similar to the book cover. “Eat” captures the scents of Italy and is food focused with notes of Italian lemon, basil and bergamot, plum, caramel, meringue and vanilla. “Pray” goes for the spiritual with notes of incense, rose, patchouli, amber and musk. “Love” showcases the writer’s time in Indonesia and includes notes of jasmine, sandalwood and mango blossom. The fragrances will be available from July 15, with the movie release in August. And that’s how to do mega-marketing 101! luxist

  • Couture week has bloomed in Paris with Dior’s blossom ispired concoctions. J’adore this rapberry ripple creation that looks good enough to eat. style
  • While most glossies go the summer route and celebrate the season by emblazoning idyllic locations and bikinis on their covers, Vogue Italia decided to do the opposite. Steven Meisel has photographed supermodel Christy Turlington for the cover bundled up and ready for a snow storm, in one of the pieces from the much talked about Chanel Fall 2010 runway modelinia
  • A delicious reason to get out of bed in the morning — Buttermilk Pancakes with Walnut Topping. Heaven on a plate courtesy of applesandbutter.

Quick bites: Wonder Woman, must-have Marni, Couture is back & Provence-in-a-jar

  • Wonder Woman is getting her first makeover since her debut in 1941. She’ll be swapping her blue-and-white-star hot pants for leggings and adding a midnight blue jacket to the ensemble. Like drag queens around the world, we are NOT HAPPY … those star spangled granny pants and eagle emblazoned bustier kicked some serious butt!  We are in mourning!   huffpost

  • Just as Haute Couture Fashion Week begins the high fashion market has posted some very positive sales news. Top Parisian labels, including Chanel, Dior and Jean Paul Gaultier have revealed a marked increase in both sales and demand. Woo hoo! vogue.uk
