Kate Knapp

WHO: KATE KNAPP
WHAT: TWIGSEEDS
WHERE: BRISBANE & SUNSHINE COAST, AUSTRALIA
VISIT:
www.twigseeds.com

FFF LOVES… Kate’s whimsical, wonderful world of enchanting characters. We wish we could disappear and enjoy high tea with them every afternoon…

What are your staples?
Barambah Organics butter… spread lavishly it’s the ultimate antidote to a bad day. Lemons, asparagus, maple syrup, fresh greens, organic chicken, horseradish, garlic, potatoes, Cavalero Nero (black cabbage) which I grow in a half wine barrel on my verandah. It’s really easy to grow and I fry it in a little olive oil with onion for breakfast with organic eggs.

What are your indulgences?
Piedra Luenga Spanish sherry that is like liquid Christmas pudding.

What can’t you live without?
Fish4Ever anchovies in extra virgin olive oil. They are sustainably fished by small community boats off the coast of Sicily with no by-catch, wastage or damage of the sea-floor. There are so delicious but a bit hard to source so I buy as many as I can afford. I have the anchovies on sourdough and use the oil to cook with.

What is past its use-by-date?
Jars of this and that, which seemed like a good idea in the supermarket.

What is your pantry craving?
Slices of Parmesan and crunchy apple.

About Kate Knapp:
Twigseeds is the nest and nom de plume of the wonderfully whimsical Australian illustrator and artist, Kate Knapp.

First hatched in Brisbane in the mid 90s, Twigseeds is famous for its colourful and curious characters, the art prints, cards, stationery and books they inhabit, and the unique perspective they share.

Ecstatic ramblings. Melancholy musings. Wandering ponderings.

Playful and insightful, enlightening and uplifting, Twigseeds reminds us to take time out - for ourselves, the people we love, and the things we love to do. And to take care - of ourselves as well as others, the little things as well as the big stuff, our planet as well as our back yard.

Among the Twigseeds family are … Ruby Red Shoes, a very aware hare, and Saffy, the sage and spotted dog.

A graduate of the Queensland College of Art, Kate divides her time between Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
